Kper – Worldwide BTC Family mix

Been a while since I put a mix together that wasn’t for one of the radio shows I do, so when the Back to Chill crew in Tokyo asked me to do guest mix for their new series of podcasts/radio shows I was only too happy to oblige.

The BTC crew are like family to me, having taken me in when I was in Tokyo and had me playing at the monthly nights regularly for pretty much the whole 18 months I was there, so I decided to put together a little mix that not only showcased some great new dubstep related bits that have recently been floating about but which also took it back to the sets I used to play with them, mixing in some other styles and covering a wide range of the sonic palette that dubstep as a genre offers today.

The mix will be going out as part of the BTC Radio series they’ve started. Not sure exactly when but I’ll update the post when I find out, should be in the next month or so I would have thought. In the meantime I’ve decided to put the mix up for grabs on here – there’s just too much good music on it to hold it back, and I’m actually really happy with how it came out. I’ve also managed to squeeze in a few exclusives and forthcoming bits including the Om Unit remix of Joker’s ‘Digidesign’ as well as Take’s remix of Architeq and a couple of forthcoming Scuba bits on the always excellent Hotflush label.

Peep the new Back to Chill site to grab the first show they did, featuring Greg G, ENA and 100窓, as well as to get all the lowdown on the monthly parties and more. The boys have been busy and I can’t wait to see just how things have moved on when I get back next year. In the meantime if you’re in Tokyo then you could do much worse than to check them out, best dubstep parties in town by a long mile.

Goth’s got a new remix of Distance’s ‘Traffic’ out on Planet Mu now, and another 12″ on Mala’s Deep Medi label as well. Skyfish has an album out on POPGROUP later this year as well, Quarta330’s got releases incoming on Hyperdub and elsewhere and both ENA and 100窓 should also have some bits out soon.

For now just grab the mix and enjoy 50 minutes of worldwide BTC sounds.

Sidenote – The image below and the one attached to the mp3 file were sent to me by Shaz from SRK who were recently in Asia for a few months doing research for their new book on Asian graffiti. While in Bangkok they met this crew of graf artists, one of which throws up under the name Kper – a totally surreal coincidence. Shaz sent me a photo of the tag and I’ve decided to start using it for my mixes. I’m trying to get in touch with him to do possibly do some custom pieces for a couple of other mixes I’m working on this year (more on that soon). Still it’s a pretty freaky coincidence and thanks to the internets you can see more of Kper’s (the graf artist) work on Flickr.
