I’ve come across a lot of pretty good stuff, music wise, on the internet this last week or so. And as I’ve got little free time at the moment here’s a random round up with no particular order. All comes heavily recommended though. Listen and download for free where possible, and support the artists the rest of the time. That is the new way. As someone said on twitter ‘you get enough shit for free so go and support for once’.
Finale – The Senator (prod. by Waajeed)
Waajeed not only made good on the production for this, he sampled Senator Clay Davis’ world famous one liner from The Wire. Which automatically makes this a WIN on all fronts.
Devon(who) and Klipmode
I’ve known about Devon(who) for a while, but recently got reminded to check him out properly after hearing a guest set he did on some SF radio show. Above is a self-released album. He’s got a track on Beat Dimensions 2 (www.beatdimensions.net). Remember the name.
Depakote
Based in L.A, Depakote got in touch with me after I posted a link to the excellent Sun Ra beat tape that Monday Jazz commisioned a few months ago (google if you haven’t heard it, it’s good). He pointed me to his Last.fm page where you can download all his freely available albums/beat tapes – http://www.last.fm/music/Depakote. There’s some good stuff in there and a lot of promise I think. He’s been sending newer stuff recently, all of which I’ve been liking – nothing crazy but nicely executed. He’s apparently dropping a debut album on Highpoint Lowlife in the future. I’ve heard an early version and it’s worth making a note for it.
Lorn
http://www.thisisopenmusic.com/2009/04/opn009-lorn-713/
Those of you who follow the whole beat/electronic hip hop thing (or maybe even listen to my shows on Rhythm Incursions) will know Lorn. In which case you won’t need convincing to download this latest free EP of his. For the rest, let me advise you download this EP and bump loud, then make a note to go buy his debut album on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label, which drops before end of year I believe – www.brainfeeder.com.
King Midas Sound – Meltdown
The above track is taken from the forthcoming KMS album and the recently released Hyperdub ’5′ compilation. It’s beautiful and hypnotic, it’s somehow deeply accurate for my current state of being (with a dose of exageration) and it’s also ideal rainy day music (looks like winter has finally arrived in London). I bumped into Kevin Martin aka The Bug on Saturday who mentioned the album is done (for good this time, considering him and Kode have mentioned ‘finishing’ said album at various times over the last 2 years it’s been planned for release). It comes out in November followed by a small European tour for Kevin and Roger Robinson. Recommended to fans of good music, dub and Kevin’s work. As for Hyperdub’s ’5′ compilation, it’s possibly one of the best things in the world of electronic dance music ever. Buy it.
Might make this round up business a regular-ish thing. Till then.

Thanks for the kind promo!
Peace and Love!
