Proto-Heads – an interactive mix

Primus Luta from www.avanturb.com hit me up with this yesterday. Proto-Heads is a truly unique and interesting music and interactive project that could well be ‘the first online interactive mixtape as well as the first mixtape exclusively made with monome music’. I’m still getting through it myself but it deserves your attention. I know he’s put a lot of time and effort into this.

“Proto-Heads is a collection of early experiments for the monome created by Primus Luta between 2006-2008. The release itself is a mixtape using a selection of Proto-Heads tracks blended with vocals by everyone from Ghostface to Peter Gabriel. In addition the release is paired with an interactive mixtape. The interactive experience gives users a visual guide to the music with commentary from Primus Luta, with links to related media, including videos and monome notation. This experience created by GtP Studios may represent the first online interactive mixtape as well as the first mixtape exclusively made with monome music.

The last part of this package is the Extras. This is a name your own price paid download which includes the instrumental version of the release and over an hour of bonus music. As previously stated, all of this music dates back to 2008 and earlier, so as an additional bonus one of the more recent Primus Luta productions has been uploaded for streaming.

This is a cover of the classic Autechre song ”Eutow”. The bulk of this was done on the monome including the drums (mnlg), synths (4|5clcs) and all of the effects.
